Sometimes Prayer

Sometimes Prayer

Sometimes, “I am praying for you,”
means precisely what is spoken.
Heartfelt words fly heavenward
with compassionate devotion.

Sometimes, “I am praying for you,”
means, “I’ve actually neglected.
But all the same, I see your pain
and hurt that you’re afflicted.”

And sometimes, “I am praying for you,”
means something far more bleak:
“I disagree and this will be
the last words that we speak.”

Author’s Notes:

If we’re honest, sometimes hands clasped in prayer are also clenched in fists.

I’ve seen so many relationship doors slammed, especially when people come out as LGBTQ+.

Hatred is not always what you feel. It’s how you make others feel.
