Ready, Aim, Hellfire

Ready, Aim, Hellfire

Like taking aim with a bow,
but lacking any arrows,
it must have felt unsatisfying
for people long ago.

For how did people judge each other
and damnify their rivals
with:”Yes, but the Bible says…”
before there was a Bible?

Author’s Notes:

I was raised to see people outside my religion as the enemy. War-like language was common as we rallied to “take back our country” while singing “Onward Christian Soldiers”, and hunkered down behind walls of self-righteousness.

It took a lot of time and perspective for me to replace fear with love.
