No argument
has ever been won
by an article link,
a ranting post,
a comment rebuttal,
a rebuttal rebuttal,
or unfriending.

And still we sling
digital mud
at human targets,
missing our mark,
missing each other,
missing the point
completely.

Maybe it accomplishes
nothing.

Maybe it does more
damage.

But, damn,
it feels
good.

Author’s Notes:

It’s so easy to get caught up in arguments on social media.

I try to keep a tight rein on myself to never engage with conflict online. Never, in my experience, has it ever led to anyone changing their mind. All that stress and being consumed with a comeback — for nothing.

It might feel good for me to argue. But at what cost? What does that do to me? And is that who I want to be?
