Baby Porcupinys

How in the world does there get to be
baby porcupinys,
when mama and papa porcupines
have all those pokey spinies?

The safest way that I can think
to avoid a prickly grapple
is have them sprout up from the ground
like baby porky-pineapples.

Or maybe they hide up in the trees,
waiting till they’re grown,
budding on a twiggy branch
like baby porky-pinecones.

It’s fine by me for nature to make
such balls of furry spikers.
I’m just glad I’m not the one
to have to change their diapers.
